The Protection page looks just like what you see in Bitdefender Internet Security, but only Antivirus, Advanced Threat Defense, and Online Threat Prevention are enabled. The ability to choose from a selection of other features for the remaining Quick Actions isn’t useful in the free edition, as all the other possible choices require an upgrade. Only two of these, Quick Scan and System Scan, are enabled. Security recommendations occupy the top of the rest of the window, with a half-dozen Quick Action icons below. Like other members of the Bitdefender product line, the free edition defaults to displaying a security dashboard, with a left-rail menu that offers detailed access to features. There’s also an option to have it run in the background while you get started using the product.

It’s easier when you realize you can choose from a plenitude of free antivirus tools, ones that outperform the built-in Microsoft Defender without charging a fee. Justifying the cost of commercial antivirus protection can be tough, especially given that Windows has its own antivirus built in.
